Volunteer — English Instructor & Academic Mentor
Help university students in Ecuador who are training to become English teachers develop their language and teaching skills.
About the opportunity
LIDE is seeking enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about teaching, education, and cultural exchange. You will support university students in Ecuador who are training to become English teachers and help them build the language and pedagogical skills they need to support future learners.
Sessions are remote and can be scheduled flexibly to accommodate students and volunteers. If your institution allows it, this opportunity may also count toward community-engaged learning hours or academic credit. For example, University of Minnesota students may be able to use it for service hours in Basics of Teaching English as a Second Language (CI 3611W).
What you would do
- Provide small-group conversational English practice and academic support.
- Take part in dynamic cultural exchanges with students in Ecuador.
- Motivate and guide future English teachers as they develop their language and teaching skills.
- Share brief updates with the LIDE coordinator and join occasional team meetings.
What you bring
- Passion for teaching, education, languages, or related fields.
- Excellent communication and empathy skills when working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Reliability, organization, and comfort working in virtual environments.
- Native or advanced English proficiency.
What LIDE offers
- Verifiable international experience in virtual teaching and cross-cultural mentoring.
- The opportunity to develop leadership and teaching skills in an international environment.
- A volunteer and social impact certificate endorsed by LIDE.
- A meaningful way to support educational access and equity in language learning.
