LIDE Co-Director Alonso Quijano Ruiz talks about empowering women in tech on DataCamp webinar

On August 2, 2023, Alonso Quijano Ruiz, Co-Director of the Ecuadorian Development Research Lab (LIDE) and head of the New Dimensions program, joined a DataCamp webinar to share how the initiative is helping young Ecuadorian women gain business intelligence skills and break the cycle of generational poverty—an issue impacting over 25% of the country’s population.

New Dimensions is a business intelligence program for Ecuadorian women from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program is sponsored by DataCamp—the world’s leading data education platform. Thanks to a partnership with DataCamp through their DataCamp Donates initiative, students receive full access to the platform, allowing them to develop their programming and data analysis skills through practical, hands-on learning.

During the session, Alonso highlighted inspiring success stories from program participants. María Belén Rosero shared how she secured a job after a period of unemployment due to pregnancy, thanks to consistent practice with DataCamp. Tamara Quijano explained how the platform helped her overcome a fear of programming and apply advanced techniques in both her university studies and her new role at an NGO. These are just a few examples of what’s possible through our partnership with DataCamp. Explore more student testimonials here.
